Our Faux Roman Shade

(I am hoping in the not too distant future we will be undertaking Phase 2 which includes replacing the countertops, sink, and faucet and having the countertop overhang a little bit on the penisula so we can add some counter height stools.) Along with days and days of painting, and updating the hardware and appliances we knew we had to give the tiny little window an update too. The little scalloped trim piece came down and then we painted the window London Fog to go with the rest of the trim and cabinetry in this space. I really love the look of a roman shade, especially in a kitchen window so knew I wanted to go that route. Because of where this window is located, privacy isn't an issue so I knew we'd never need to pull it down so it didn't need to be a working roman shade. My sister, <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/jamie-and-joshs-painted-roman-shades.html">Jamie had made a faux Roman shade in her kitchen</a> a while back so I just worked from memory on how she did hers. I didn't use a tutorial I just tried to remember as best I could how hers was and after I little bit of finangling I got it close enough and called it a day. (<a href="http://mapleandmagnolia.com/faux-striped-grain-sack-faux-roman-shade/">Here is the tutorial she used</a> when making hers). I actually first did this with a temporary piece of fabric I had purchased for a few dollars this summer. It was a pretty toile in gray and white and although I liked it, it wasn't the feel I wanted in here (although I like country it was a little too country for my taste) but I knew it would make do until I found the right fabric. When my mom picked up this stripe for me at a store in NH I knew it would be perfect not only to <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2013/10/an-oversized-chalkboard-and-bench-in.html">recover our bench</a> but for my window treatment as well and would help add a little bit of a punch in the kitchen but still remain neutral. And there it is - an updated window! Yay! <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDcEpBv3LIiHIe5ALHPmjRCSoubt8HeCFCLtqe83erlxemKqTn206k6IuCsQ19u586fH_hN-erhON-Kz0Q_4kz0rjFWCYwKNePgjaAJxR1a9ZTW9fA6GK0eIQ6muH8ulZ39_veoXG7KmY/s1600/DeforeandAfter5b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; A Little Fall in the Study and our Newest Joss and Main Curator's Collection

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Today I thought I would share with your the fall decorations in our study but before I get to that I wanted to let you all know about our event launching tonight at 9PM EST.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We are so excited to have partnered with <a href="https://www.jossandmain.com/index.php">Joss and Main</a> again, and are hosting our fourth curator's collection event tonight. It is so much fun working with them. If you don't already know about Joss and Main I highly recommend heading on over there and signing up! They offer all sorts of designer brands that go on sale at 20-50% off retail, but the deals are only available to members! I have bought some of my favorite pieces from them over the last year and a half: some smaller items like baskets, pillows, a lamp, and larger pieces like a dresser, and most recently our large clock and dining room chairs. (I don't know for certain yet if they were able to but they were going to try to have all of those items in the event tonight!) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you’re not signed up yet to get the emails announcing all the sales, here is a <b><a href="http://www.jossandmain.com/invite/E6D1DF" target=""><span style="color: #408080;">personal invitation</span></a> from me* . There is a waitlist for joining Joss & Main, but by <a href="http://www.jossandmain.com/invite/E6D1DF"> joining through this invitation link</a>, you can bypass the waitlist and ensure that you are first in line when our event launches later today!</b>  It is free, you sign up with your email, and then you’ll have access to all of the designer decor that goes on sale each day.  <span style="font-size: xx-small;">*Note, I do receive a small referral fee if you sign up and purchase something, (this is true for you too, if you refer members you will also receive a credit for their first purchase).  </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: xx-small;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: xx-small;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: xx-small;"><br /><span style="font-size: small;">And here is our study decorated for fall. I actually did this at least a month or so ago but didn't get around to photographing it until Friday. I figured I'd better get it photographed soon, though, seeing how in a few more weeks I will be getting out the Christmas decorations - ahhh! As I mentioned the first time I showed this room, we haven't done all that much in this room seeing how it's the one space where we are considering keeping the dark trim. I did paint the walls a creamy color called Soft Chamois from Benjamin Moore (they were a light pinky peach color when we moved in) and I know I want to have something built above the mantle to cover the bookshelves but other than that I am not sure if we will do much else. All the pieces in here (including the fall decorations) we've had for 5-10 years except the lamps which are from HomeGoods and the draperies (the Ritva ones from IKEA) and some of the pillows. I will try to add a source section when I get it chance but I am typing this post as fast as I can. I don't normally work on my computer during the day when the girls are awake but I was so behind I had to try to type this post up and they are patiently waiting on me to bake some muffins. =) </span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Some Simple and Inexpensive Autumn Touches

I am really excited with how the dining room is coming together. I've also made a good bit of progress in the entryway but I am not as thrilled with how that's coming together. I still have to add the final coat of paint to both the trim and the walls and then do some accessorizing and also hopefully change out the light fixture. Then once that is done it's on to the powder room and then I will start making my way upstairs! Seeing how I won't have the dining room ready to share on here until next week, I thought I would at least share a quick post with some of the autumn touches we've added in our kitchen/family room. </div><br />With an entire house to update I'd rather be putting money towards more permanent changes (light fixtures, rugs, furniture, wallpaper, etc.) so I didn't want to spend much on adding some fall touches to the house. I stuck with three Cinderella pumpkins from Lowe's that were $6 each and then just went out and cut some branches from one of the Japanese Maples in our yard. Even though the leaves haven't really changed color yet they still help add an "autumny" feel and they were free! And the white pumpkins are all faux ones that I have had for about five years. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTSdOYngBtAC4Tf-PpAFLH19do7XXghy-boMAbV5u4ukuuoCAAHgeLOX6PSKVb_HL1emGAQOpsRmRcKM2Iin0A4yktQGEzrigLGT_uI1O5I1i92hvlg2j6MbXTsXZ_0o_jKyTrILEar0C5/s1600/nJuly_2015.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTSdOYngBtAC4Tf-PpAFLH19do7XXghy-boMAbV5u4ukuuoCAAHgeLOX6PSKVb_HL1emGAQOpsRmRcKM2Iin0A4yktQGEzrigLGT_uI1O5I1i92hvlg2j6MbXTsXZ_0o_jKyTrILEar0C5/s640/nJuly_2015.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />I ordered these new chairs from Joss and Main using a bunch of store credit I had earned there which was nice! I purchased them for the dining room but used them in here for about two weeks until I got a little more done in the dining room and then I just finally moved them into the dining room a couple of days ago. I liked how they looked in here but I like them even better in the dining room! I'll write a little more about them when I do my dining room post next week. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF9nFL4SRXiRFoh7yzqlBIk3dbHxEmuz-cNBhx0KGNYxzDXSxTtBAIW1I4YexytMC1GMgXjdBArSMen_M1brjGUCJwsEra0zqn4JLvR4CfLtcV445eljkx3n05Ifh71pTIKBGmLz8xZygm/s1600/nJuly_1891.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF9nFL4SRXiRFoh7yzqlBIk3dbHxEmuz-cNBhx0KGNYxzDXSxTtBAIW1I4YexytMC1GMgXjdBArSMen_M1brjGUCJwsEra0zqn4JLvR4CfLtcV445eljkx3n05Ifh71pTIKBGmLz8xZygm/s640/nJuly_1891.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Many of you asked about the microwave and toaster in our kitchen post. We actually had a little overlap where we didn't have a microwave but now that we do it is sitting to the right of the stove. Eventually we hope to find a little spot to place it in one of the lower cabinets but for now it's fine where it is. And we actually went without a toaster for over a year - haha! Ours broke at least a year ago and we never replaced it. After settling in here we finally went ahead and got one and it is tucked away to the right of the microwave. If you look closely you can probably spot it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;
