Soft Surroundings Dresser and One Finished Wall in our Master Bedroom

I first heard of them last spring and quickly became entranced by their website and all of the beautiful items they carried. The second I saw this three-ring chest I fell in love with it and knew it would be the perfect piece to design our master bedroom around. I originally was planning on going with a charcoal gray in here but I ended up doing that in one of the <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/02/our-gray-guest-bedroom-and-full-source.html">guest rooms</a> and used this gorgeous dresser as my starting off point for our master bedroom. I love that even though I would consider it a traditional piece, the rings add an updated twist. And the color is perfect.  I was so excited when it arrived and it is especially nice to have one wall in our bedroom almost finished! I used items we already had around the house to display on the chest except for the tray - that was a fun clearance find. We are still working on the rest of the room. Since I took these photos we have added a rug (the rug from the family room in our last house - it's not a perfect fit, but the colors coordinate nicely in here) and some bedding. We are still waiting on our bed to arrive though. Our mattresses are currently on the floor which the girls think is great fun but I have to admit I am looking forward to having an actual bed again. And then once that comes I can figure out nightstands and something for the end of the bed. And then there's the light fixture and artwork and all sorts of other details to add. But for now here is what we have done and you can get a feel for the colors and overall feel of the room. Fortunately this room didn't have any wallpaper to deal with like two of the other bedrooms and bathrooms and the hallways and staircase had. Instead I thought I would just quickly share some photos I took of our master bedroom a couple of weeks ago when I was adding some spring/Easter touches to the house. I know a while back I mentioned I was going to be painting our bedroom. I promise I did fully intend on painting it. It was so crazy around the holidays, though, that I ended up deciding just to wait until I returned from NH after Christmas. Well, it was during that trip home that we found the house (which to make easier I will just refer to as <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-new-place-to-decorate-and-new-space.html">"Jason's House"</a>) and I knew that I was going to have a TON of painting ahead of me up there so decided to hold off on our bedroom. I knew that if we decided to try to sell our home for real this summer (not just mentioning it on the blog like we did last summer) that I might still paint it.  Well, our house is officially on the market as of today with a realtor and we ended up deciding to keep this color, Benjamin Moore's Kendall Charcoal, after all. The only thing I have for tonight are a few pictures of our bedroom that I took in a hurry. I am thinking about painting it a lighter color so thought I would show it with some fall decor before I take the plunge and paint it. I still love this color! It's one of my favorites and I would use it again. However, we are hoping to put our house on the market for real this coming spring. (We mentioned selling it on the blog this past summer and put a for sale by owner sign in our window for a few months but didn't get a realtor or really put much of an effort into selling it. Once this basketball season is over, though, we are going to officially put it on the market and attempt to sell it). Because of that I think this room would be better a more neutral color. I am leaning towards Revere Pewter. I've used it on furniture pieces before and my parent's used it in several of their rooms and I LOVE it and I think it would be a more "safe" color to prospective buyers. This is the only room that I think the current color has the potential to scare someone off! Haha!

By the time I got over to Jamie's last night it was dusk so it was nearly impossible to get any good shots. We tried to shine one of the industrial worklamps they have there in the room but it really just ended up casting some weird shadows.  Also, I think this project would be better suited for a nursery but as Jamie is trying to save up her money to finish off accessorizing the main rooms downstairs we thought it would be a nice temporary fix to her guest bedroom. text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I had intended on making this post a tutorial but decided not to because the photos didn't come out as planned.  Basically what I did was draw the branch in pencil on the wall and then outlined it with paint.  Then I filled in the rest of the branch, adding a few nobs and bumps to make it look a bit more natural.  Lastly, we attached the crepe flowers to the ends of most of the branches with puddy.  We are thinking about going back and adding some flowers along a few of the branches and possibly throwing in a couple of smaller blooms.  This would be a quick, easy, and incredibly cheap way to add a whimsical touch to a nursery or little girl's room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Hanging Branch Tutorial

Now we just need our little munchkin to hurry up and get here. Just three and a half more weeks until she's due, but I am certainly hoping she comes a little bit earlier.  When we did the branch in Lillie's room a month or so ago we got a lot of questions about how we did it, so I am going to do my best to show you. This is one of my favorite projects because I love the natural element it provides and it was FREE! Well, the one in the nursery was free, the one in Lillie's room I did have to buy the cardstock for the birds but otherwise it was free. Also, I know you all are probably getting sick of seeing photos of our house as that has been all the last several posts have been about. (For the one in Lillie's room I wanted it to look like birch tree branch so I just did a light coating on it and let a lot of the natural branch color show through. Anyway, it is from Lowe's and is by Valspar. The color is Churchill Hotel Vanilla and the finish is Satin. For Lillie's room I had used two hooks similar to this one but smaller. (I didn't feel like hauling the ladder upstairs and climbing it just to get a good picture so I thought I would take a photo of the closest thing I had to it. For the ones in the nursery I tied it around the base of the screw and then tightened the screw all the way into the ceiling so hold the clear wire tight. For Lillie's room I used nine birds cut out from cardstock. For the nursery I used seven  birds cut out in fabric and I used a heat transfer to iron them together so they would be thicker and wouldn't just flop all over seeing how the fabric was so lightweight.  Then I punched a small hole in the top wing and just used regular sewing thread to hang each bird from the branch. For the nursery I used a light brown thread to help blend in with the wall color and in Lillie's room I used a light gray thread.
